History

The pharmaceutical industry holds a special place in Malia Group. The vision began in 1935 when Dr. Jean Michel Sarraf would create local preparations of medicines and the filling of prescriptions in his small yet thriving pharmacy. Since then, his ambitions have grown to encompass a groundbreaking pharmaceutical company known internationally for its quality standards and its generic products.

Here is our story in brief.

  • 1935
    Dr. Jean Michel Sarraf establishes Sarraf Pharmacy in North Lebanon.
  • 1951
    Le Comptoir National de la Droguerie Sarraf opens in Beirut and begins to distribute pharmaceutical and cosmetic products in Lebanon, Syria and Iraq.
  • 1994
    License Agreement with Pierre Fabre (France) is signed.
  • 1999
    Pharmaline is awarded ISO 9001 & 14001 certifications for Quality Management Systems and Quality Environment Systems, respectively.
  • 2002
    License Agreement with SWISSE (Australia) is signed.
  • 2003
    License Agreement with Merck Santé (France), now known as Merck Serono, is signed.
  • 2003
    License Agreement with Merck KGaA (Germany) is signed.
  • 2005
    License Agreement with Tripharma (Turkey), now known as Merck Serono, is signed.
  • 2005
    License Agreement with Phadisco (Cyprus) is signed.
  • 2008
    License Agreement with Abbott (USA) is signed.
  • 2009
    Second Plant expansion to meet EU norms and increase production capacity.
  • 2010
    Agreement with GSK (UK) is signed.
